Is a wife rewarded for harming her foul-mouthed husband, and is a man who is diligent in praying at the mosque to be compared with a foul-moutmouthed woman about whom it was said: “So-and-so fasts and prays, but she is foul-mouthed”?

Spouses must uphold each other's rights to preserve the family. Kind words win hearts, as Allah Almighty says: "And speak to people good [words]" (Quran 2:83) and "And tell My servants to say that which is best" (Quran 17:53). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent," and "Nothing is heavier in the Scales of a believer on the Day of Resurrection than good character." This is even more emphasized concerning spouses. There is the narration about the woman who harmed her neighbors with her tongue and was in Hellfire, and another narration about the bankrupt person who comes with prayers and charity but curses, slanders, and beats others, then is thrown into the Fire. Also, the hadith: "Indeed, bad character spoils deeds just as vinegar spoils honey." Therefore, the husband is advised to repent from mistreatment, and the wife to be patient and pray for her husband.
