Does arrogance constitute shirk?

Arrogance is a reprehensible trait. Allah has warned against it in the Holy Quran and has threatened the arrogant with turning them away from His signs. Arrogance is divided into categories: arrogance towards Allah, which is the most severe; arrogance towards the Messenger; and arrogance towards people. Some scholars believe that certain types of arrogance can amount to disbelief or be worse than polytheism, because the arrogant person is too proud to worship Allah, while the polytheist worships Allah and others.
