Revocable divorce is when a husband divorces his wife with whom he has consummated the marriage, with a first or second pronouncement. He is permitted to take her back before the end of her waiting period (iddah) without a new contract or dowry, based on the verse: "And their husbands have more right to take them back in that [period]." However, if he divorces her a third time, she becomes unlawful for him and irrevocably separated from him (major divorce), regardless of whether these pronouncements were separated or made together at the same time.
