Does a wife sin by forsaking her husband's bed if he tells her: "I don't want you, but you will remain under my marital responsibility for the sake of the children, and nothing will unite us"?

A husband's statement to his wife, "I do not want you," is among the ambiguous expressions (kinayat). If he intended divorce by it, then divorce occurs; otherwise, it does not. His statement, "You will remain under my responsibility (on my 'isma)," indicates that he did not intend divorce. As for his statement, "Nothing will unite me and you," if he intended by it to cease marital relations without the wife's consent, then this is not permissible for him. He must either keep her honorably and fulfill her rights, or separate from her kindly, unless she waives her rights. It is not permissible for the wife to abandon her husband's bed as long as she is under his authority.
