Allah has forbidden taking akhdan (close friends of the opposite sex) for both men and women. The prohibition is even stricter if the khidn is a disbeliever, because the marriage of a Muslim woman to a disbeliever is forbidden by consensus (ijma'). It is, therefore, even more reprehensible for a Muslim woman to have a relationship with a disbeliever outside of marriage. A person is influenced by those they associate with, and "a person is upon the religion of their close friend," and "on the Day of Resurrection, one will be with whom they loved."
