How long will the divorce proceedings take to complete, and how long will the waiting period (iddah) be before a new marriage is permissible?

If the country's law does not permit cohabitation with one's wife except with a marriage contract dated later than the divorce, then the issue can be resolved without an actual divorce by requesting that the marriage document be dated with its issue date, not the contract date. If a divorce document is necessary, it can be obtained without an actual divorce occurring, as long as the husband does not intend it or utter it. If a divorce has indeed occurred, there is no শরعي (Shar'i) prescribed waiting period for delaying the reconciliation (رجعة - raj'ah); the husband can reconcile with his wife immediately after the divorce, or as long as she is within her waiting period ( عدة - iddah). If the waiting period has expired, then a new contract is necessary. All of this applies if it is the first or second divorce.
