Is it a condition for the 'Aqiqah that the animal be slaughtered, or is a ready-made and prepared sacrifice from outside the country permissible?

Aqiqah is only valid if the animal is slaughtered specifically for it, with the intention of drawing closer to Allah, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Deeds are only by intentions." Therefore, what is slaughtered without the intention of Aqiqah cannot be considered Aqiqah.
