What is moderation in religion? And is there moderation in religion?

We have previously explained the meaning of moderation (wasatiyyah) in Islam in Fatwa No. 43288. We alert the questioner that many people misunderstand moderation, using it to shed religious obligations and fall into prohibitions under the pretext that "Islam is moderate and free from strictness." This is a misguided understanding of moderation.
