Is it permissible to contract marriage with a woman from the People of the Book online (audio and video) for fear of falling into fornication before the official marriage?
Allah Almighty permitted the believer to marry the chaste, honorable believing woman, and made an exception for the women from among the People of the Book, provided she is chaste (honorable), as Allah Almighty says: {And [lawful for you are] the chaste women from among the believers and the chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you} (Al-Ma'idah: 5). If she is not chaste, then it is not lawful to marry her. The marriage is generally valid if the condition of chastity and the pillars and conditions of marriage are met. If the contract is concluded over the internet, and there is security from manipulation, and the identity of the husband and guardian is verified, and the two witnesses hear the offer and acceptance, then there is no objection to that. The preferred and more cautious approach is to conduct the contract through proxy.
