What should a wife do, Islamically, with her husband who insults her brother and curses her family, and refuses reconciliation with him, given his negative and materialistic behavior, especially since he had previously expelled her and her children?
Part of good companionship between spouses is for each to treat the other's family well, to help the spouse honor their parents and maintain kinship ties, and to overlook their faults. The husband should not insult the wife's relatives in her presence; otherwise, she is entitled to seek divorce due to harm. The wife is advised to be gentle when counseling her husband if he curses her brother or family, and to strive for reconciliation between them. She is permitted to relay words that foster affection between them, even if they are not entirely true, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The liar is not he who reconciles between people and says good things and conveys good things." As for accumulating wealth for the children, there is no objection to it if it comes from lawful sources and the right of Allah in it is fulfilled, along with the certainty that Allah is the Provider. Sustenance is decreed while the fetus is in its mother's womb. Allah Almighty said: "And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision."
