Is it permissible to donate organs to save the lives of Muslims?

It is not permissible to donate an organ upon which life depends, such as the heart and liver, because it is considered killing a soul. As for donating an organ upon which life does not depend, such as kidneys, scholars have differed concerning it. The majority of contemporary scholars and jurisprudential bodies have permitted it under certain conditions: that it does not harm the donor, that it is done voluntarily, that organ transplantation is the only means of treatment, and that the success of the operation is certain or highly probable. Donation is permissible when these conditions are met, with the caveat that it is not permissible to donate if it goes against the command of one's parents.
