What is the meaning of guidance for those who were killed in the path of Allah, as mentioned in the verse: "And those who are killed in the path of Allah, He will not let their deeds perish. He will guide them and amend their condition"?

The reading of the aforementioned verse differs among the reciters. The majority read it as (قَاتَلُوا - they fought), while Abu Amr and Hafs read it as (قُتِلُوا - they were killed).

According to the reading of (قُتِلُوا - they were killed), the meaning of the verse is a reward for the martyrs. Allah guides them to Paradise and admits them into it, and rectifies their affairs, as stated in His saying: "And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them."

As for the reading of (قَاتَلُوا - they fought), Allah guides them in this world to righteousness and good deeds, and grants them reward in the Hereafter. The guidance here could be to direct believers to the paths of Gardens, or to argue against Munkar and Nakir.

In conclusion, guidance is granted to all those who fight in the way of Allah, whether to those who were killed among them, by their entry into Paradise, or to those who remained among them, by guiding them to righteous deeds.
