Should a woman forgive her husband after his death?
Forgiveness and pardoning those who err is praiseworthy in both religious law and human nature, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah.﴾, and ﴿And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination.﴾, and ﴿and those who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good.﴾ And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Maintain ties with those who cut you off, give to those who deprive you, and forgive those who wrong you." A wife should forgive and pardon her husband if he falls short in her rights, especially if the husband has passed away, although this is not obligatory upon her.
