How did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, acquire his strength?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate from the labor of his own hands. He herded sheep and engaged in trade. Then, Allah enriched him with what He made lawful for him from fay' (spoils acquired without fighting) and ghanima (spoils of war). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I was sent before the Hour with the sword so that Allah alone would be worshipped with no partner alongside Him, and my sustenance was placed beneath the shadow of my spear." For this reason, some scholars considered ghanima to be the best form of earnings.
