Does suffering from obsessive thoughts, anxiety, and depression mean that faith has not entered the heart? And what is the interpretation of Allah's saying: "And whoever Allah wills to guide - He expands his breast to Islam; and whoever He wills to misguide - He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were ascending into the sky. Thus does Allah place defilement upon those who do not believe"? (Al-An'am/ 125)

A person's affliction with obsessive thoughts (waswas), anxiety, and depression does not mean that faith has not entered their heart. Some Companions were exposed to obsessive thoughts, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, described them as "pure faith" and "a trick of Satan." Dealing with obsessive thoughts involves ignoring them, seeking refuge in Allah, frequently remembering Him, and engaging in beneficial activities, with the possibility of consulting a psychiatrist if they worsen. As for the saying of Allah Almighty: (So whoever Allah wishes to guide, He expands his breast to Islam; and whoever He wishes to send astray, He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were ascending into the sky. Thus does Allah place defilement upon those who do not believe), this refers to the disbeliever who does not believe in Allah. The verse indicates that Allah grants success to whomever He wills for faith and makes their heart open to it, and makes the chest of whomever He leads astray tight, as if they are ascending into the sky due to the severe burden of resisting Islam.
