Is Nikah Mut'ah (temporary marriage) permissible or forbidden, and how can it be terminated if it occurs?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Mut'ah marriage is one of the prohibited marriages by consensus (Ijma'). Whoever engages in it must repent and annul it, whether before or after consummation. Both spouses are subject to disciplinary punishment for it. The child born from it is legitimate, and the wife is entitled to a dower equivalent to that given in similar situations (mahr al-mithl), though some say she is entitled to the stipulated dower (mahr al-musamma).
