What is the ruling on a woman who broke her fast during Ramadan due to foreplay that resulted in secretions (without intercourse)? Does she have to make up for one day or fast for two consecutive months? Is it sufficient for her to fast extra days in Shawwal instead of this day? What is the expiation for delaying the make-up fast? Is it permissible to pay money instead of feeding the poor?

If the discharge that came out of you as a result of foreplay during the day in Ramadan was maniyy (seminal fluid), then your fast is invalid, and you are only required to make up for it, without expiation, according to the more preponderant opinion. Repentance is also obligatory for you. However, if it was madhiy (pre-seminal fluid), then you are not required to make up for it.

If you delayed making up for the missed fasts until the next Ramadan without a valid excuse, then you are obliged to pay a fidyah (expiation) amounting to 750 grams of the staple food of the country. This fidyah does not multiply with the repetition of years. As for the days you fasted as a precaution for menstruation, they do not count for the day whose fast was invalidated, because you did not intend to fast that specific day.

Expiation, in general, is paid in food, and it is not permissible to pay it in cash according to the majority of scholars. However, some scholars have permitted paying its value in money if that is more beneficial for the poor.
