There is no sin if a person dies in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) or if a woman dies while menstruating (ha'id). Hanzalah ibn Abi Amir al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on the Day of Uhud while in a state of junub. He was named "Ghasil al-Mala'ikah" (the one washed by angels) because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I saw the angels washing him." One who dies in a state of junub is given a ritual bath (ghusl (definition)) just like any other deceased person.
