What is the ruling on unleashing one's gaze and what is its punishment? Is marriage the remedy for that? Is it sufficient to wipe over light impurities that affect a man, or must they be completely washed?
To recover from casting one's gaze upon forbidden things, you must fear Allah and be mindful of His constant watch over you, and strive to get married, for indeed marriage protects one's chastity and helps lower the gaze, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever can afford to marry, let him do so, for it helps him lower his gaze and protect his chastity." You should also be keen on fasting, which reduces desires, and remind yourself of the allurements of women and the repulsions that lie within them when looking at them. Remember the benefits of lowering the gaze, and beware of giving in to obsessive thoughts, and keep away from anything that arouses desire. As for wiping impurity with a wet hand, it does not purify it.
