Scholars have differed on the meaning of {وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ} (By the heaven full of constellations) with several interpretations. These include: that it refers to palaces, or planets, or stars, or the mansions of the sun and moon. Al-Tabari favored the interpretation that it refers to the mansions of the sun and moon, which are twelve constellations through which the sun and moon travel. He further stated that these constellations are elevated, high mansions, and that the moon has twenty-eight mansions distributed among these constellations. Ibn Al-Qayyim mentioned that these "constellations" are among the greatest signs of Allah’s power and wisdom.
