Is denying an interpretation of a Quranic verse, especially if it is the most well-known interpretation, considered disbelief, despite the existence of another interpretation that is more convincing to the person?

The interpretation of the Quran is done through the Quran and the Sunnah (definition), and it is necessary to adhere to both without contradiction. It is also done through the sayings of the Companions, and one should not deviate from them.

An example of the Sunnah interpreting a verse: Allah the Almighty says: (For those who have done good is the best [reward] and extra) The "extra" is looking at the Face of Allah, as stated in Sahih (definition) Muslim from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Another example: Allah the Almighty says: (And those who commit immorality of your women – take four [witnesses] from among you against them. And if they testify, then retain them in houses until death takes them or Allah ordains for them [another] way.) The "way" was clarified by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with his saying: "The unmarried male with the unmarried female: a hundred lashes and exile for a year. The married male with the married female: a hundred lashes and stoning."

An example of the Companions' interpretation of a verse: Allah the Almighty says: (ʿUrubun Atraba) Several interpretations from the Companions and the Tabi'un (followers) have been reported for this, including those who are affectionate towards their husbands, those who are loving, those who are good in their marital relations, those who are charming, and those who are pleasant in speech.

If there are multiple permissible interpretations for a verse among the exegetes, there is no harm in preferring one of them. However, it is not permissible to follow the aberrant interpretations of the people of innovation and misguidance.
