What is the authenticity of the Hadith that states, "For every one thousand, one enters Paradise and the rest are in Hellfire"?

The hadith the questioner referred to is what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that Allah Almighty will say to Adam on the Day of Resurrection: "Bring forth the Fire's contingent." It will be said, "From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine." The Companions were alarmed by this, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, reassured them and gave them glad tidings that Muslims would be half the inhabitants of Paradise, and that the vast majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire would be from Gog and Magog. This hadith encourages a Muslim to strive diligently in righteous deeds and to call others to them. It should not be a cause for negligence, for Allah wrongs no one.
