I swore an oath of divorce: that I would not speak to my wife.

If you swore by divorce that you would not speak to a specific woman and you did not speak to her, then there is nothing upon you. However, if you did speak to her, divorce occurs according to the majority of scholars. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that you only owe an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yameen) if you did not intend divorce. According to the view of the majority, you may reconcile with your wife before her 'iddah (waiting period) ends, provided this divorce does not complete the three divorces. Her 'iddah ends when she becomes pure from her third menstrual period after the divorce, or after three months if she does not menstruate, or upon delivering her baby if she is pregnant.
