Is it permissible for a programmer to work for a commercial insurance company until he finds another job, especially if there are no Islamic insurance companies available in his country?

If the company in question is a commercial insurance company, then working for it is impermissible and one must leave it without delay, as it is unlawful, being based on gharar (definition) (excessive uncertainty), gambling, and riba (usury). Allah Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." There is no impediment to establishing an Islamic cooperative insurance company in Palestine. It is not necessary to declare it an Islamic company; rather, it suffices for its systems to be Islamic.
