The answer

What is meant by Bayt al-Maqdis is Al-Masjid al-Aqsa, as in His Almighty’s saying: "Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing." It may also refer to the area where Bayt al-Maqdis is located and the place that encompasses it, such as the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Bayt al-Maqdis will be opened." The city of Jerusalem as a whole can be referred to as Bayt al-Maqdis in general usage, but this does not include all of Palestine or the Levant.
