If two shaykhs differ on a fatwa concerning divorce, then which one should be followed: the one whose opinion brings comfort to the heart, or the one who is trusted, or the one who is convincing?

The optimal way to seek a religious ruling (fatwa) is to ask someone whose knowledge and piety are trusted, and then to act upon their fatwa. If there are conflicting fatwas on a particular issue, the inquirer should act upon what they predominantly believe to be the truth. If they are qualified to examine the evidence, they should adopt the strongest opinion. Otherwise, they should follow the most trustworthy mufti to them. If the opinions are equal and no single opinion is stronger, then it is permissible to adopt the easiest one.
