What is the ruling on celebrating birthdays and accepting invitations to them?

It is not permissible to celebrate the birth of Christ or any other holidays of the disbelievers, nor to celebrate anyone's birthday; because that is an innovation and an imitation of the disbelievers. Muslims have no holidays except Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and Friday; anything else is an innovation.
