Is supplicating for a Muslim brother with the intention of having one's own supplication answered considered an insincere supplication?

The prayer of a Muslim for his Muslim brother in his absence is answered. Therefore, you must be sincere in your supplication for your brother and love for him what you love for yourself, so that your prayer may be answered and you may receive the like of it, as some of the Salaf used to do.
