Is the intercession through the Imams practiced by my wife, who belongs to the “Bohra” sect, considered polytheism (shirk)? And is my marriage to her valid if what she does is polytheism, knowing that they insult the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and believe in other matters that contradict Islamic Sharia?

The Bohra are an Ismaili Musta'lī sect, known as the Tayyibiyya. They originated in India and Yemen and are renowned for trade. They believe in a concealed Imam from the lineage of "Al-Tayyib ibn Al-Amir."

Their beliefs are a mixture of deviations, characterized by esotericism (Bāṭiniyya) and extremism (Ghulūw) regarding their Imams. Among their practices are prostrating to their Imam and kissing his hand and foot. They claim that he owns the souls of his followers and their endowed properties, and that he is God on Earth.

The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has issued a fatwa declaring them disbelievers (kuffār) and outside the fold of Islam, and has forbidden marriage to them, considering them an esoteric sect that contradicts and undermines the fundamentals of Islam.
