Is a son obliged to obey his mother who forbids him from traveling to work in another city because his wife's family resides there, knowing that he is in dire need of work to pay off his debts, and that the mother is well-off but does not help him get rid of these debts?

It is permissible to travel for trade without the parents' permission according to some scholars, such as Imam Al-Nawawi, who stated the permissibility of traveling in pursuit of knowledge and trade without their permission. The same is found in Al-Bahr Al-Raiq, Umdat Al-Qari, and Ahkam Al-Quran, where they hold that there is no harm in going out for trade and Hajj without the parents' permission, due to the absence of fear of perishing.
