The husband's statement to his wife, "If you are compelled to marry, then consult your family," does not affect the marital bond (ismah), nor does it constitute a divorce merely by itself. This is because it is a kinayah (an ambiguous or indirect expression) which requires an intention or an indication of the circumstances. If these are absent, no divorce takes place.
