What is the ruling and recompense for those who wrongfully consume people's wealth in the name of religion, and do not acknowledge those who gave it to them?
Consuming people's wealth unjustly is forbidden, and whoever does so will enter Hellfire. Whoever takes people's wealth intending to destroy it, Allah will destroy him. And whoever wrongfully seizes the property of a Muslim will meet Allah while He is angry with him, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah, is [always] easy."
And according to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever cheats is not from me." And his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Do you know who the bankrupt person is?" They said: "The bankrupt among us is he who has neither dirham nor property." He said: "Indeed, the bankrupt of my Ummah is he who comes on the Day of Resurrection with prayer, fasting, and zakat, but he comes having insulted this one, beaten that one, consumed the wealth of this one, and shed the blood of that one. So, this one will take from his good deeds, and that one will take from his good deeds. If his good deeds are exhausted before he pays what he owes, then the sins of his companion will be taken and cast upon him, and then he will be cast into the Fire." And his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever takes people's wealth intending to repay it, Allah will repay on his behalf. And whoever takes people's wealth intending to destroy it, Allah will destroy him." And his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever wrongfully seizes the property of a Muslim will meet Allah Almighty while He is angry with him."
