The noble companion Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, has been extensively slandered by enemies of Islam, Orientalists, and some Arabs, but Islamic scholars have countered them. One of the biggest misconceptions against him is that his conversion to Islam was late (in the fifth year of the Hijra), so how could he be the most prolific narrator of hadith among the companions? The refutation to this is that he was among the companions who adhered most closely to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He himself said, "Neither planting saplings nor bargaining in the marketplaces preoccupied me from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I only sought from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, a word he would teach me and a meal he would feed me." Ibn Omar testified to this.
