As for what has been reported about Umar's prohibition of Abu Hurairah from narrating hadith and his threat to exile him to the land of Daws, assuming its authenticity, it occurred under specific circumstances. Umar believed that people should occupy themselves with the Qur'an and reduce narration of hadith other than those related to practical deeds, and that traditions granting concessions should not be narrated for fear of people relying on them. Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir mentioned that Umar later permitted Abu Hurairah to narrate hadith, and this directive, assuming the authenticity of the narration—the authenticity of which Al-Mu'allimi doubted.
