If a man says to his wife, "By Allah, if I ever ride in your car again, you will be divorced," during a state of intense anger, does the divorce take effect? Firstly: If a man says to his wife: "By Allah, if I ever ride your car again, you will be divorced," if he intended to prevent himself from riding the car and did not intend to effect a divorce, then if he rides it, an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yameen) is due upon him. However, if he intended the divorce to occur upon his riding the car, then if he rides it, his wife is divorced with a single divorce. Secondly: If the man does not ride his wife's car, nothing is incumbent upon him. If he buys her another car, it is permissible for him to ride it.
