Is a woman's consent an essential pillar of the marriage contract? Is the contract valid if she refuses or has not reached the age of maturity? Does she have the right to annul the marriage after reaching maturity?

Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of a father compelling his adult daughter to marry and the validity of such a marriage. The more preponderant opinion is that the marriage of an adult is valid, but it cannot be concluded without her consent, and she has the right to annul the contract if it was concluded without her consent. As for the minor, some scholars have reported a consensus on the permissibility of a father marrying her off to a suitable match without her permission. However, they differed on whether she has the option [to annul the marriage] after reaching puberty or not. Some jurists, including Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, are of the view that it is not permissible to marry off a minor.
