The guardianship (qawamah) of a man over his wife means care and protection. The wife's obedience to her husband is restricted by the dictates of Sharia, such that what is commanded is permissible and does not harm her, and that it relates to marriage (nikah) and its ancillaries. Among what falls under this is the husband's right to prevent his wife from bringing anyone he dislikes into his home, even if it is her mother.
