What is the ruling on fasting people breaking their fast upon hearing the call to prayer for Maghrib in Mecca, while being 6 or 7 hours away from Mecca, and before the Maghrib call to prayer in their own location?
It is incorrect to break your fast based on the adhan of Mecca if you are in another city. It is safer to make up the day if you broke your fast before the adhan of your own city, as stated by the Permanent Committee. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen holds the view that the fast is valid and there is no need for a make-up day for someone who broke their fast relying on the adhan of the Grand Mosque in Mecca while in Jeddah, and then discovered a time difference, because they did not do so intentionally. He supported his view with the Almighty's saying: {And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred} and the hadith of Asma bint Abi Bakr that they broke their fast on a cloudy day and then the sun appeared, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not order them to make it up.
