Is it better to pray Dhuhr in the mosque after leaving lectures and before the 'Asr athan, or at home? And what is the evidence for this from the Qur'an and Sunnah?
Congregational prayer is twenty-seven degrees superior to individual prayer. It is best to perform the prayer in a place where a congregation is available, whether at home or in the mosque. If there is a conflict between praying in congregation at home and praying individually in the mosque, then congregational prayer at home is better, as long as there is ample time. If there is a conflict between praying in congregation at the mosque and praying individually at home, then the mosque is better. And if the worshiper will pray alone in both cases, then the mosque is better because it is the most beloved of places to Allah, and because prayer there involves initiative. It is not permissible to delay prayer beyond its prescribed time under any circumstances.
