Does the use of porcine gelatin and skin in food and clothing render prayer unacceptable, and is what Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi said—that only the flesh of swine is forbidden—correct?

It is forbidden to consume gelatin derived from pigs or to add it to foods and beverages, based on the Almighty's saying: "Say, 'I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to an eater who eats it, except that it be a dead animal, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine — for indeed, that is an abomination.'"

As for clothing made from pigskins, the preponderant opinion is that the skins of all dead animals become pure through tanning, including pigskin, due to the general saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If the hide is tanned, it has become pure." Accordingly, there is no impediment to selling, buying, utilizing, or praying in them after they have been tanned, although it is better to avoid them out of piety and caution.
