What is the ruling on a husband divorcing his wife three times with the intention of making her regret it, not with the intention of divorce, knowing that the husband was under the influence of alcohol and drugs? And is the husband considered a cuckold for testing his wife by asking her to commit adultery with another man?

The couple must repent of their sins by abandoning them, regretting them, and resolving not to return to them. An explicit divorce takes effect even if the utterer did not intend it, provided he was aware of what he was saying. A triple divorce takes effect unless it was intended for emphasis, in which case it counts as one. If a triple divorce occurs, the wife becomes irrevocably divorced (bainunah kubra) and is not permissible for him until she marries another man, he consummates the marriage with her, and then he divorces her or dies and her waiting period expires. However, if the divorce is less than three, the wife may be taken back during her waiting period. It is not appropriate to retain an unchaste wife; if she does not repent, she should be divorced.
