Which is more severe in the sight of Allah: insolence towards Allah Almighty, or the killing of innocent Muslims? And which is more dangerous to the security and stability of the country and its revolution, and a greater violation of the sanctity of the religion of Islam?

Transgression against God is disbelief and is uglier than other sins. A Muslim, even if afflicted by worldly calamities, including being killed, is in a better state than a disbeliever who enjoyed comfort in this world. A Muslim's religion is more precious and important than all other matters, which is why the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, advised Mu'adh and Abu al-Darda' not to associate anything with Allah, even if they were killed and burned. Apostasy from the religion is more severe and greater than killing. Allah Almighty says: "And Al-Fitnah (disbelief or trial) is worse than killing" and "and Al-Fitnah (disbelief or oppression) is greater than killing." The believers in the story of the People of the Ditch preferred death over apostasy. The greatest sins in the sight of Allah are polytheism (shirk), then killing a child, then adultery with a neighbor's wife. This does not diminish the gravity of shedding blood, for killing a soul unjustly is one of the gravest major sins.
