What is the ruling on marriage with the intention of divorce upon returning to one's homeland?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a woman marries you with the intention of divorcing her upon completing your studies and returning to your country, this intention does no harm, and the marriage is valid and without defect. This ruling applies to anyone who marries a woman with the intention of divorcing her once their need in the country where they married her is fulfilled. The marriage is valid according to the consensus of jurists, unless this condition is stipulated in the contract or declared to the woman or her guardians. The validity of this marriage does not negate its reprehensibility due to the harms that may result from it and the deception and fraud it involves. A condition for the validity of marriage to a disbelieving woman is that she must be from the People of the Book (Jewish or Christian) and chaste.
