Do the verse, "He said, 'O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My [two] hands? Were you arrogant, or were you among the high and mighty?'" contradict the verse, "He said, 'What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?' He said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay'"?

The scholars have answered the question of different wordings in similar Quranic stories by stating that the intent is to differentiate meanings and to present a single meaning in multiple forms. This aligns with the linguistic customs of the Arabs. There is no difference between the various expressions: ("What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?"), ("What prevented you from prostrating?"), and ("What is the matter with you that you are not among those who prostrate?"). All of them convey a single meaning, which is Allah's questioning and reprimanding of Iblis for refusing to prostrate to Adam. As for the ambiguity of "لا" (laa) in His Almighty's saying: ﴿مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ﴾ (What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?), several answers have been provided: 1. That "لا" (laa) is an extra particle used for emphasis. 2. That "لا" (laa) is not extra, and there is an ellipsis in the text, with the تقدير (implied meaning) being: What prevented you from prostrating and compelled you not to prostrate? 3. That the meaning of the verse is: Who told you not to prostrate? So, "prevention" here means "telling" or "instructing." 4. That "prevention" means hindering a person from what they desire, and the تقدير (implied meaning) of the text is: What compelled you not to prostrate?

There is no contradiction between the verses of the Holy Quran or the Hadiths, because the Quran is truth from Allah. If a contradiction appears to someone, they must believe in the absence of disagreement and seek a way to reconcile the apparent differences.
