Should one abandon the Sunnah due to fear of people falling into suspicion, doubt, or corruption, such as abandoning prayer on the bus, or abandoning prayer after the first Adhan on Friday so that it is not mistaken for a pre-Jumu'ah Sunnah?

Islamic Sharia (definition) aims to achieve benefits and avoid harms. One of the most important benefits is reviving the Sunnahs. However, if acting upon a Sunnah (definition) conflicts with a greater interest, such as "uniting hearts" or warding off harm, then the greater interest is given precedence. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, refrained from changing the structure of the Kaaba to unite hearts. Ibn Mas'ud disapproved of Uthman completing the prayer while traveling, yet he prayed behind him and said: "Disagreement is evil."

Accordingly, it is permissible to forgo some recommended acts if doing so unites hearts and prevents discord, especially if it is highly probable that acting upon the Sunnah will lead to a preponderant harm. Nevertheless, matters must be assessed precisely. Sunnahs should not be abandoned merely due to an illusion of aversion. Rather, they should be practiced and explained to people unless a real harm results from doing so.

Regarding the specific issues: 1. Voluntary prayer on a mount: It is permissible for a traveler according to the majority of scholars, and it is not Sunnah in a settled state. Explaining its permissibility to people usually does not cause aversion. 2. Pre-Jumu'ah Sunnah prayer: The preponderant view is that it is not legislated. Rather, what is legislated is to come early and perform absolute voluntary prayers until the preacher ascends the pulpit. Those who do not deem it legislated can simply avoid deliberately performing a specific prayer after the first adhan (definition). There is a difference of opinion on this issue.
