The answer

Prayer is not valid for one who has had a minor impurity until he performs ablution, nor for one who has had a major impurity until he purifies himself, due to the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves." (Quran 5:6). One who is in a state of janabah must perform ghusl, and his prayer is not valid without ghusl, unless he is sick and cannot use water, or is in a place where he cannot find water. In such cases, he should perform tayammum, and his prayer will be valid.
