What is the difference between a mutawatir hadith and a non-mutawatir hadith, and is it permissible to suffice with the Quran and mutawatir hadiths without other hadiths, and what is the ruling on one who believes in the torment of the grave as a matter of affirmation, not conviction, due to the absence of explicit evidence in the Quran or the mutawatir Sunnah?

The difference between a mutawatir hadith and a non-mutawatir hadith has been previously explained. Non-mutawatir hadiths that meet the conditions of authenticity must be acted upon. The torment of the grave is established by the Qur'an and Sunnah. From the Qur'an, Allah Almighty says: "The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], 'Admit the people of Pharaoh to the severest punishment!'" (Ghafir: 46). And His saying: "We will punish them twice, and then they will be returned to a great punishment." (At-Tawbah: 101). And His saying: "And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know." (At-Tur: 47). From the Sunnah, there are many hadiths, among them the hadith in the two Sahih collections regarding the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passing by two graves whose occupants were being tormented, and the hadith in Muslim concerning the trial of the Ummah in their graves, and the supplication to seek refuge from the torment of the grave after the final tashahhud. These hadiths have reached the level of tawatur, and whoever does not believe in them is in grave danger. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab mentioned the tawatur of reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the establishment of the torment and bliss of the grave.
