What is the ruling on leaving a wife in suspense so that she may learn her lesson, or marrying another woman, until she relinquishes some of her rights, in light of her disobedience to her husband, her insolence towards his family, the interference of her family, and her father's assault on him?

If the wife is weak in religious commitment and ill-mannered, the husband has the right to restrict her and refuse to divorce her until she forfeits her Mahr (dowry) or a portion of it, based on the statements of Al-Sa'di and Ibn 'Uthaymeen. The husband is advised to admonish his wife and clarify the limits of her religion and his rights over her. If she repents and becomes amenable, he should keep her and uphold the limits set by Allah. He is not permitted to allow her to go out in immodest clothing or wearing perfume. If she does not obey him, he may discipline her through lawful means. If her family corrupts her, he may prevent her from visiting them and prevent them from visiting her. If all of that proves ineffective, it is preferable for him to divorce her and seek a righteous wife. The husband should strive to strengthen his connection with Allah, be diligent in fearing Him, and frequently engage in remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a).
