Is it permissible for the wife to suspend the marriage until the husband tells the truth about his relationship with another woman, and what is the ruling on her swearing by divorce (khul') or making herself unlawful to him as a condition for knowing the truth?

A wife's attempt to extract information from her husband regarding a relationship with a foreign woman is impermissible. For either he is innocent, and her questioning is an injustice and harm to him, or he is guilty, and it is not permissible for her to interrogate him to expose himself. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded self-concealment and repentance, and forbade open declaration of sin. Therefore, the wife must abandon her delusions and suspicions, conceal her husband's faults, and live with him in kindness. If she perceives a wrongdoing from him, she should admonish him with wisdom and gentleness. It is not permissible for her to forbid herself to him, for that does not result in a prohibition and does not affect the marriage contract. She owes an expiation for breaking an oath.
