What is the ruling regarding a wife doing something her husband dislikes, when he has sworn that she would be divorced if she did it, knowing that she has done it many times without his knowledge? And would she be considered divorced by three pronouncements or by one? And would she be lawful for him upon her return to him?

A conditional divorce takes effect when the condition is met. If it is conditioned on performing two or more actions, it does not take effect until all of them are performed. If the condition is met, a single divorce occurs, and the contingency is dissolved, unless the contingency uses the phrase "every time," in which case it implies repetition, and the divorce takes effect every time the action is repeated. If the husband says, "If you do one of the things I forbade you from, then you are divorced," the wife is divorced by performing the very first one only, and the contingency is dissolved. The husband's affirmation of the contingency does not affect the number of divorces before the wife's action. The wife must inform her husband of what she has done, as he is more knowledgeable about his intention and the wording of the contingency.
